Owners/Operators Program

These features and benefits are applicable to individual owner-operators and fleets with less than five trucks.  Other programs are available for larger fleets.

Minimum qualification requirements - The minimum qualification standards that were applied by American Transport, Inc. in considering an applicant for a driver's position are as follows:

  • Driver applicant must be 23 years of age or older.

  • Three years verifiable experience in the past five (5) years in the operation of a tractor-trailer unit, over the road, with a motor carrier. (This experience to include a minimum of one year’s experience with the type of trailer the applicant will be pulling.)

  • No more than three (3) points in the previous 3 years of application date.

    • Preventable DOT recordable accident
      2 Points

    • Serious traffic violation per Section 383.51
      2 Points

    • Non serious traffic violation per Section 383.51
      1 Point

    • Preventable Non DOT recordable accident
      1 Point
  • No preventable DOT recordable accident or serious traffic violation per 49 CFR 383.51 in the previous 12 months prior to date of application.

  • No commercial transportation-related felony, theft or larceny conviction within the applicant’s lifetime that resulted in an active prison or jail sentence. All other non-transportation related convictions will be subject to review at the discretion of the company and/or its insurance company.

  • No conviction for DUI, DWI OR OWI on driving record within the previous five (5) years. No violation of 49CFR Part 382 or 392 of the FMCSR for drugs or alcohol.

  • No more than three (3) Out-of-Service violations on roadside inspections within two (2) years of application date.

  • The nature and severity of any of the items referenced above, as well as the Independent Contractor’s record viewed in totality, may be sufficient cause for declination of the application.

No Forced Dispatch - Greentree Transportation Company operates a first in, first out board system. All Greentree loads are available for owner operators to view on the Internet You are not required to take every load an agent offers you. You must, however, generate $10,000 gross revenue each month.

74% Gross Revenue - Greentree Transportation Company pays 74% of the gross revenue.

Terminal Pay - Everyday is Payday at Greentree Transportation Company - Greentree Transportation Company has 100% terminal pay for its Independent Contractors. When an Independent Contractor has delivered a load, the paperwork can be presented to a Greentree agency for terminal pay. Postage paid envelopes are also provided, as well as the use of trip pak. Settlement is made to you as soon as the paperwork is received.

In order to assure and assist our drivers in meeting compliance requirements of CSA 2010, effective September 10, 2010 regardless of the method of submission of paperwork for payment of a load (mailing, scanning, faxing, TripPack or in person) logs through the day prior to submission will need to accompany the paperwork.

100% Independent Contractor Fleet - Greentree Transportation Company operates with a 100% Independent Contractor fleet. We have no company equipment and we do not intend to acquire any in the future.

Illinois IRP Plates - Illinois IRP plates are available. One quarter of the total base plate cost is required at the time of the equipment lease.

$600 Yearly Incentive - All Greentree Transportation Company Independent Contractors can earn $50 per month toward the following year’s unit charges. Requirements are that each tractor generate $10,000 of gross revenue per month, has no chargeable accidents or cargo claims, and all required paperwork is submitted to the main office on a timely basis.

Free Permits - All sign-on permits are furnished to the Independent Contractor.

Driver Referral Program - Should a Greentree owner operator or agent refer an owner operator to sign on with Greentree, the referring owner operator or agent will receive a $100 bonus as soon as the referred owner operator is leased with Greentree. If the referred owner operator is still leased to Greentree 90 days later, the referring owner operator or agent will receive another $100.

40% Advance on Truck Revenue - 40% of the truck pay is advanced on all loads on the day of loading.

Physical Damage Insurance - Independent Contractors under lease to Greentree Transportation Company can purchase physical damage insurance. This insurance covers comprehensive and collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible for the tractor and the trailer.

Company Paid Fuel & Road Taxes - Greentree Transportation Company pays the permanent Independent Contractor's fuel & road taxes for all states. The Independent Contractor is required to send all fuel receipts to Greentree Transportation.

Non-Trucking Insurance - Non-trucking insurance must be carried by the individual Independent Contractor in the amount of $500,000. Greentree Transportation Company offers its Independent Contractors non-trucking insurance coverage for a low monthly cost of $35.

Occupational Accident Coverage - Independent Contractors may elect coverage under Greentree Transportation's Occupational Accident insurance policy or obtain their own state worker’s compensation coverage.

Passenger Accident Insurance - Passenger Accident Insurance provides $100,000 in medical and/or death benefits if your authorized passenger is injured while on a trip.

Fuel Discounts - Greentree Transportation Company receives fuel discounts at selected Petro, Pilot, T/A & Loves Travel Center locations. Fuel discounts are automatically recorded on your Comdata Card at time of purchase. Call Central Dispatch for details.

Central Dispatch - Greentree Transportation Company operates a Central Dispatch Department from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm E.S.T., Monday through Friday. Each dispatcher coordinates movements of freight in one of five regional areas. Availability of permanent equipment is communicated to our agents on a daily basis. Utilization of our permanent equipment is dispatch's primary objective.

100% Commissioned Agents - Greentree Transportation Company operates all of its 90 terminals as independent commissioned offices. In addition, Greentree Transportation Company’s permanent Independent Contractors have access to Greentree’s sister company agents of American Transport, Inc and Aetna Freight Lines, Inc. This is an additional 120 terminals.

Hospitalization Benefit Package - Greentree offers hospitalization coverage to all of their drivers, owner operators and agents at group rates through Benefit Dispatch. The program includes coverage for major medical, limited medical, prescriptions, critical illness, term life insurance, discount dental & vision.

Individual(k) Retirement Savings Plan - Access to an Individual(k) Retirement Savings Plan which has a 401(k) feature designed for businesses with no employees other than the owner-operator and the owner’s spouse. Contributions can be withheld with approval from settlements and sent directly by Greentree to the investment institution.

$100 Cash for Violation Free D.O.T. Inspection Report - If you go through a Level 1, 2 or 3 inspection and there are no violations on you or your equipment, Greentree will put $100 on your Comdata or EFS Card.

Monthly Top Independent Contractor's List - Each month, recognition is given to the top 10% independent flatbed contractors, stepdeck/doubledrop contractors, as well as heavy haul contractors.

Quarterly Safe Driving Contest - Each quarter, all Independent Contractors that generate at least $10,000 gross revenue per month and have no preventable accidents or cargo claims will have their choice of receiving a $50 U.S. Savings Bond or a $25 Pilot Truck stop Gift Card or 2 Greentree customized T-shirts.
